- In 1944, Fleming was Knighted as Knight Bachelor by the British King of England, King George
- awarded a Nobel Peace Prize jointly shared with two of his colleges in 1945
- In his honor, the Fleming Museum was built and dedicated to he and his discoveries
- Fleming achieved becoming a member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences
- given the award of Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons of England
- listed by Time Magazine as one of 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century
- Amongst a few Swedish magazines rated penicillin the most major medical
breakthrough within the last 1,000 years
- In 2002, Alexander Fleming made the British Broadcasting Corporation's list of 100 Greatest Britons
- Fleming was commemorated on a new issue of banknotes provided by the Clydesdale Bank; his photo appears on the new issue of £5 notes
- an asteroid given the name 91006 Fleming in his honor
